Happy First Birthday Matthew!!

Who knew that one year ago today that our lives would change so much? Matthew has been an incredible blessing to us and we thank God for every day with him. We continue to pray for his birth parents and will forever be grateful to them for this amazing gift.
On a light note, we started out Matthew's birthday by attending Mass today. We've come to know a lot of the people who attend daily Mass at our church and they were happy to be celebrating this special day with us. They prayed over Matthew and then sang Happy Birthday to him. Then it was off to see dad at work and deliver some cupcakes for the staff at the hospital. After we got home, I started to work on his birthday cake. My friend Joy has started a tradition where she bakes her daughter's birthday cake from scratch every year. Needless to say, she's a better woman than I am. I got about 5 minutes into it and already forgot to add a key ingredient. Baking with a one year old hanging on your leg adds a whole new degree of difficulty to the process. So it was off to the QFC to get a birthday cake. Oh well. Better luck next year.
I've added some recent pics at the end here. A few are from swimming class last week (BTW isn't Scott looking thinner???). And those two top teeth are just about half way in now.

Party Animal

We were off to Phoenix this weekend for my friend Kim's daughter's graduation from high school. It was nice to actually wear shorts as it was 100+ degrees! At Jasmine's party, Matthew was in the middle of everything. He certainly doesn't seem to have a shy bone in his body. He had his first experience with balloons and ice cream and was hooked on both accounts. He also did a little limbo-ing.

By the end of the night, he was one pooped party-goer. I think we're in for lots of excitement with future gatherings.

Fun with Tupperware

Tupperware should really think about making baby toys. I mean for all the money we spend on Matthew's toys, he would prefer playing with a bunch of Tupperware. His favorite thing to do is to babble into a bowl. I don't know if he thinks that he's talking on a "Tupperware phone" or what. But he does it and then laughs like crazy afterwards. It really is the cutest thing.

Matthew's First Haircut

Well, I know it seems odd for Matthew to be getting a haircut (especially since he hardly has any hair), but I think this picture below explains it all...

We've been calling this the baby Terry Bradshaw look. Like the hair growing over his ears? So it was off to the baby barber today. He went to a place called "Wild Child" (what an appropriate name) in University Place. It was a little tenuous at first, but after some video and toy distraction (and a good binky) he did great.

Our friend Crystal is the one who cut his hair. Her daughter, Brody, was in Matthew's swimming class. I think it helped to have a familiar face doing the trimming. Although we've been warned that the second time is actually the toughest. At the rate his hair grows though, hopefully that won't be until next year ; )
