Escape from Sandy- Part #2

Before I go any further, I should mention that this post is in two parts because there were too many pictures to put into one post. You should start with Escape from Sandy- Part #1 below.

Anyhow, back to Colonial Williamsburg....

Matthew is really becoming a good big brother. He pushed the stroller a lot on our trip and is starting to try and play and help out with Jacob. We're really proud of him. And it is so cute to see this relationship between the two of them start to develop.

So these posts are titled "Escape from Sandy". About a day into our trip to Williamsburg, we started hearing rumblings about a storm on it's way. We watched a lot of the Weather Channel and were trying to figure out whether we needed to make an early exit from VA or not. On Saturday, when it looked like the storm was inevitably going to pass through VA, I mentioned to Scott that we might want to see if we could catch an earlier flight that day. "No, we'll be fine" he says. Sunday morning we woke to see the tidal flooding in Norfolk on the news and then Scott said "We need to get to the airport". We were literally driving to the airport with the storm on our tails. Our flight was delayed so we were a little nervous that we weren't going to make it out of Virginia for a few days. We figured that we were the second to last flight out of Richmond before things started getting interesting. We got to Detroit, but missed our connection and had a 6 hour lay over. That meant we got to have an unexpected visit with my parents at the airport.

Then it was back to life as usual in the Pac NW. Halloween was two days after we got home and Matthew's school had a Halloween parade that was a lot of fun. We also went trick or treating with Matthew's friend Mimi and they both made out with quite the bag of loot.

I tried to get a few pics of the boys for Halloween, but Matthew isn't quite 100% comfortable holding Jacob as he gets older and more wiggly. So that's why Matthew might look like he's in pain in some of these pics. Jacob, unfortunately, didn't get dressed up on the actual holiday since Matthew's old pirate costume barely fit him and was more like shorts than pants. So he just sported his Halloween jammies.

Well, that's all of the Taylor news for now. I probably won't post until after Thanksgiving, so we wish you all a wonderful holiday.

Escape from Sandy- Part #1

Well, it's a little late to talk about the beautiful October sunrises now that it's November, but here's one pic from our deck. Our sunrises have disappeared for now and the rain has returned but that's ok because we still live in a beautiful place.

Other October happenings included a trip to Virginia to visit Scott's mother and step-father and attend his 20th (yes, 20th!!) college reunion at William and Mary. Our first stop was Nana and Grandad's house. Matthew had lots of fun taking boat rides, riding in the golf cart and just playing around. He insisted on wearing his pirate costume on the boat and he transformed into Captain Brickbeard, bombing (with pine cones) everything in sight. It was very humorous.

Matthew and Nana also had some Nerf gun shoot outs. I love the look on Matthew's face in this pic. It's like he's saying "Ha, ha, ha gotcha".

We also spent one night at Great Wolf Lodge in Willliamsburg. We have one in WA and Matthew loves this place! He would spend the whole day from morning to night playing in the water park if he could. We even got Jacob to spend a little time in the kiddie pool.

Next up was Colonial Williamsburg. Matthew had a lot of fun learning about life in colonial times. I think that his favorite part was learning about muskets. He's such a boy.

Time Is Just Flyin'

Wow! It's hard to believe that it's been over a month since our last post. It is amazing how the school routine just makes the time fly by. With the return of the rain, we've been reminded that things are moving fast and the summer is definitely over now.

Since our last post, Jacob was baptized and I am happy to say that Scott can no longer him a pagan baby. As you can see from the pictures, he was a very happy boy that day and wasn't bothered a bit by Deacon Pat pouring water on his head (although they do warm it). Our friends Steve and Julie honored us by being his godparents. There's a great pic of the three of them that follows.

Matthew is starting to like becoming a big brother. He loves trying to make Jacob laugh and Jacob watches his every move. It's amazing that the two of them are really starting to look alike. It's eery.

The Taylor Boys

Matthew is loving school and making lots of friends. He is still working on building up his stamina since kindergarten is a full day, five days a week. His class went on their first field trip to the Children's Theater in Seattle to see Cat in the Hat. They are also planning a trip to the pumpkin patch this upcoming week. They have been studying about apples and pumpkins in school and loves to tell us all kinds of little facts about them.

Hockey season has also started for Matthew. He had a bit of a bumpy start since he wasn't able to get in much ice time this summer with the arrival of Jacob. But now he is really doing well. He's even scored a few goals. The coaches always speak so well of him and say he has an awesome attitude and doesn't quit. Despite being one of the smallest and youngest kids on the team, it really is amazing to see how far he has come in a few short weeks. Now I'm afraid to get on the ice with him because I know he'll be able to skate circles around me.

Well, that's all of the Taylor news for now. I'm sure there is more to tell, but I've got to catch some zzzz's. Jacob has decided to revert back to his newborn days and is awake every 1-3 hours at night. Makes for one very tired mommy and daddy.

Matthew's First Day of School

Well, today was Matthew's big day- his first day of kindergarten. It's hard to believe that it is finally here and that the summer is over. Very sad for us, but Matthew is so ready to start school. He was a little timid at first, but was doing great by the time we left. We didn't get many classroom pictures because it was a bit chaotic and we were trying to get Matthew settled. When he was ready to sit with his friends, we decided to make our exit. Scott tried to snap some pics of me shedding a few tears, but I wouldn't let him and I think he knew better :) But here's some of the action from today.
